    Virtual World Incubator

As part of the Learning Innovation Campus (LIC) mission, we have made available a limited number of parcels (land) for private office or “create your own space” leasing. These parcels are available for individual, non-profit or corporate use for groups that are focused on education, people development, coaching or exploration of learning effectiveness.

The mission of the campus is to foster and support the activities of like-minded individuals and companies who are interested in being part of a campus dedicated to people development and learning. This is a great way for those new to Second Life® to take their first steps in establishing your virtual world footprint, or for those who want to belong to the LIC community.

High-Income Individuals Face New Medicare-Related Taxes in 2013

by Jonena Relth, President and Leadership Evangelist

Because many of my readers are professionals considered to be” High-Income Individuals” (questionable during these turbulent times…), I think you may find the numbers of value in your current and future tax planning.  The article is from Forefield Inc. Data Source: Joint Committee on Taxation, Publication JCX-17-10, March 20, 2010.
“The recently enacted health-care reform legislation includes new Medicare-related taxes. These new taxes take effect in 2013, and target high-income individuals and families. While additional details and clarifications will become available between now and 2013, here’s what you need to know.”

    How Leaders Can Reduce Cliques

    Guest Author: Robert Whipple

My business is built on helping organizations build higher levels of trust. One significant trust buster that is evident, even in the best organizations, is the presence of cliques. These informal groups continuously drain the trust from the larger organization by fostering a culture of exclusivity. Since joining together with like-minded people has been human nature back to the “Clan of the Cave Bear,” how can an organization reduce the negative impact of these insular cells?

It is a function of leadership to set the tone of any culture. If leaders either condone cliques or encourage them by participating in them, the cells will continue to enjoy their exclusivity at the expense of the larger organization. The conundrum is that cliques are highly prized by the people in them. The support structure allows all members to poke fun at others who are outside the fence and create their own set of norms. This builds in a kind of polarization that is as uncomfortable to the outsiders as it is gratifying to the elite.

2nd Life MeetupI Can See You: Patient Records Online, Always, Everywhere

    Guest Author: Peggy Salvatore

The vision for fully interoperable health IT is simple; as we’re discovering, the implementation isn’t.

We’ve got software hurdles, workflow design issues, hardware decisions, and finding the right communications packages to pull it all together out there in cyberspace. But one of the biggest hurdles is proving to be patient resistance to the all-seeing, all-knowing Big Brother aspect of having their medical history online, always, everywhere.

For some people, it’s just a little too Orwellian. You can’t gloss over the fact that our medical history is private, and we want to keep it that way.
